Favorite YT Memory:
My friend from the MS group bragging that she’d win the heart of a “Redshirt”… and she did!! (Information regarding the guilty culprit shall remain confidential, although some people refer to this state as another country!)
Actually, the nostalgia and wonder of seeing our nation’s capitol city and all of the historic monuments are what remains carved in my memory today… Youth Tour was, and continues to be, such a great gift to young people across rural America.
Favorite YLC Memory:
Wow, so many!
Speaking in front of 13,000 people at the Annual Meeting was a rush.
I think the best, however, was when Melissa (MN), Dustin L (SD), and I tried to perform “From a Distance!” Melissa, on piano, was so nervous and, although she had done a stunning job in our practices, was really messing it up at the talent show! I remember the look of horror and panic on her face, as she wished she was anywhere but there, while Dustin (on guitar) was trying to maintain composure but let the occasional grin escape, and I (on vocals) was cracking up more than anyone! But we managed to pull it off and made it through alive. We three still remain the best of friends. I even moved to Minnesota for a while to be with my girl Melissa!
And the memories from being a Red Shirt are hilarious:
… Scuba breaking his ankle the morning before his first YLC conference, and limping around Lincoln, NE;
… Just being around Sparky made us laugh, especially when he’d get angry. But boy, he LUUUVS Texas! Playing jokes on Sparky… who could forget about the coffee and the toothpaste?
… Karen and her fixation with the singing fish - “Billy Bass”
… Oh my goodness - Ralph Bust-a-mové (NM). When we first met as Red Shirts, he was my most-beloved compadre. Austin Powers had just come out, and Ralph and I would act like idiots imitating the characters to pass the time at the Hyatt. I SERIOUSLY thought that the Dr. Evil voice he was putting on was just a show - a show that never ended. Ralphy still speaks to this day like Dr. Evil…it’s his own dialect!
GOOD TIMES, GOOD TIMES!
